How to maintain eyelash extensions?

Are you tired of your mascara constantly smudging or rubbing off throughout the day? Maybe you're looking for a low-maintenance option to enhance your eyes without the hassle of applying makeup daily. Enter eyelash extensions! They add length, volume, and drama to your lashes and can last for several weeks with proper care. But maintaining them can seem daunting if you're unsure of where to start. Here are some tips on how to keep your eyelash extensions looking fabulous.

1. Avoid getting them wet for 24-48 hours after application

This first tip is crucial for maximizing the lifespan of your eyelash extensions. After your extensions have been applied, it's recommended that you avoid water and steam for the first day or two. This means no showering, swimming, or even sweating excessively from exercise. Water and steam can weaken the glue bond between your extensions and natural lashes, leading to premature shedding.

2. Brush them regularly

Just like how you brush your hair to prevent tangles, you'll want to brush your eyelash extensions to keep them looking neat and separated. Use a clean mascara wand or spoolie brush to gently comb through your lashes from the base to the tips. This also helps distribute natural oils from your skin to your extensions, which can keep them hydrated and shiny.

3. Avoid oil-based products

Oil can break down the glue that holds your extensions in place, causing them to fall off sooner than expected. Be mindful when choosing skincare and makeup products to ensure they're oil-free. Use a water-based makeup remover and avoid using waterproof makeup, as it can be challenging to remove without rubbing your eyes.

4. Don't touch them!

As tempting as it may be to rub your eyes or play with your eyelash extensions, resist the urge. Not only can it damage your extensions and natural lashes, but it can also transfer oils and bacteria from your fingers onto your eyes.

5. Get them filled regularly

Eyelash extensions will naturally shed with your natural lashes, typically every 4-6 weeks. To maintain their fullness, it's recommended that you get them filled every 2-3 weeks. This is when a lash artist will fill in any gaps with new extensions to keep them looking seamless.
